04 Sep Children’s prayers
Children naturally trust a loving parent and a loving God, and they love to pray. They love bedtime prayers that affirm God’s care and love for them. You’ll find illustrated books and booklets, and audio materials, for children in our on-site, Christian Science Reading Room. In a Christian Science Sunday School, children of all ages learn they are created pure and perfect as God’s precious ideas or children, and they learn how they can talk to God in prayer. In Sunday School, they learn they can listen for God’s “angel thoughts.”
Jesus said, “Suffer the children to come unto me, and forbid them not.” And he told his followers they must, themselves, become as little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. How often has a parent been comforted, even healed, by the simple, God-blessed prayer of a child.
A precious little illustrated pamphlet titled, “I love to pray” shares how young children can live their prayers every day. It closes, “when I pray, I let God’s thoughts be my thoughts.” These precious thoughts lead the child to express his/her natural ability to be kind, generous, loving, happy and good. The pamphlet may be purchased at our Reading Room. You can read author Sylvia Pohling’s original poem (without illustrations) HERE (Originally published in the July 15, 1952 issue of the Christian Science Sentinel).
