22 May Lecture “The Science of Christianity”
Christian Science lecturer Mary Alice Rose of Brookville, Maryland, spoke on “The Science of Christianity” in Waynesboro, May 1, 2016. For those who missed this well-attended talk at the Waynesboro Public Library, here is a recap and link (below) to another talk by Rose.
Rose’s early interest in science and technology led her to a 20-year career in the applied physical sciences. Her experience in this field ranged from work as a meteorologist with the National Severe Storms Laboratory, and as a manager developing the ground system for the Hubble Space Telescope. In 2002, she transitioned to the full-time ministry as a Christian Science practitioner. She is now an authorized teacher of Christian Science, based in Brookville, Maryland, and an international speaker on the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
In her talk, Rose explored the implications of the spiritual law, “God is Love,” from the book of I John in the Bible, and shared examples to illustrate that law in action. As a former applied physical scientist, she saw parallels between the study of physical science and the study of Christian Science, and shared those insights. She paid particular attention to the scientific method, showing how Mary Baker Eddy, the discover and founder of Christian Science followed those steps in her life, seeking to understand what heals, and testing what she learned.
